The Professional Engineer Program (PSPPI), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), held its 14th Engineer’s Oath-Taking Ceremony on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. The ceremony took place at the Prof. Ir. Eko Budihardjo, M.Sc. Building, Jl. Prof. Soedarto, S.H., Tembalang.
In this 14th oath-taking ceremony, the Professional Engineer Program of the Faculty of Engineering successfully graduated 105 engineers. The graduates also achieved an outstanding academic performance, with 83 graduates receiving the cum laude distinction.
In his speech, the Head of PSPPI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Widayat, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng., stated that the 14th oath-taking ceremony serves as both a driving force and motivation for PSPPI FT UNDIP to continuously improve and make a significant contribution to the implementation of the Engineering Law. With the addition of 105 new engineers in this period, the total number of PSPPI FT UNDIP graduates has reached 1,276 engineers.
Prof. Widayat also explained that graduates in this period were still predominantly from the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway, while 11 graduates came from the regular program. Nevertheless, the program continues to prioritize quality. The RPL process is not conducted entirely through recognition of prior learning, but is complemented by approximately 30 percent of coursework through case-study assignments, in accordance with the relevant ministerial regulations governing the implementation of the Professional Engineer Program.
Furthermore, Prof. Widayat emphasized that obtaining the Engineer title should not be regarded as the end of the journey, but rather as the beginning of a professional career. By obtaining the Engineer title, graduates have fulfilled the legal and ethical requirements mandated by the Engineering Law.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng., expressed his hope that the Engineer title would not merely be regarded as an academic credential, but as a title carrying significant responsibility. He emphasized that the Engineer’s Oath that had been taken should be genuinely applied and implemented in professional engineering practice.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), Dr. Ir. Ilham Akbar Habibi, MBE, IPU, ASEAN Eng., extended his congratulations and highest appreciation to the newly inaugurated engineers. He emphasized that the Engineer title is not merely a form of academic recognition, but also represents a professional responsibility, particularly in the era of Industry 4.0 and the transition toward Society 5.0.
In closing, he encouraged the new engineers to become professionals who are not only skilled in calculations and design, but are also capable of systematic and interdisciplinary thinking while maintaining empathy for people. Engineers are expected to harness technology to strengthen national resilience, accelerate development, and improve the quality of life for society. At the same time, they are encouraged to uphold the dignity of the engineering profession by continuously learning and innovating.
