PSPPI FT Undip Inaugural Lecture: Equipping Future Engineers with Engineering Insights and Technological Transformation

The Professional Engineer Program (PSPPI), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), held its inaugural lecture as part of the opening of the PSPPI learning program. The activity served as an important moment to introduce the study program and provide students with an initial understanding of the engineering profession, professional ethics, and the challenges facing engineers amid technological transformation and industrial decarbonization.

The inaugural lecture featured several speakers who provided comprehensive perspectives on professional engineering education and practice. The first session, “Introduction to the PSPPI Study Program,” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Widayat, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng. The session introduced students to the program’s vision, objectives, learning system, and various academic activities they would undertake throughout the Professional Engineer Program.

The next session was delivered by Prof. Ir. Vitus Dwi Yunianto Budi Ismadi, M.S., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., who discussed “Engineering Code of Ethics and Professional Ethics.” The session emphasized the importance of integrity, professionalism, responsibility, and adherence to professional codes of ethics. Engineers are expected not only to possess technical competencies but also to make responsible decisions by considering safety, environmental, social, and sustainability aspects.

The inaugural lecture continued with the topic “Engineers for Next Zero Emission: Technological Transformation, Alternative Energy, and Industrial Decarbonization,” presented by Dr. Ir. Sri Peni Inten Chayani, M.M., IPM., ASEAN Eng. The session highlighted the strategic role of engineers in addressing climate change and supporting the transition toward more sustainable development.

During the session, students were introduced to technological developments, the utilization of alternative energy, and the importance of decarbonization strategies in supporting the transformation of industries toward a low-emission future. Engineers play an increasingly important role in developing technological innovations and solutions that address industrial needs while maintaining environmental sustainability.

As part of strengthening students’ national perspective and understanding of Undip’s values, the activity also featured a session on “Ke-Diponegoroan,” delivered by Dr. Ir. Agus Suprihanto, S.T., M.T., IPM. The session introduced students to the values and spirit of Diponegoroan, which are expected to serve as a foundation for developing academic and professional character within the Universitas Diponegoro community.

Through the inaugural lecture, PSPPI FT Undip aims to equip students not only with an understanding of the Professional Engineer Program but also with broader perspectives on the responsibilities and challenges of the engineering profession in the future.

The activity marked an initial step toward developing professional engineers who are competent, ethical, innovative, and committed to contributing to technological transformation, sustainable development, and industrial decarbonization.
